How Do We Get Things Done Around Here?Grab hold of the idea!If you are on staff, it needs to be taken to staff meeting / senior pastor. If you are not on staff then ask yourself if your idea comes under a staff heading. You might want to start there. Figure out a “who-what-where-when-how-why” plan. You might even want to write these things down! Clarify and define your idea. Figure out what committees are involved - for example if it involves money then Finance Committee; if it involves building use then Trustees; if it involves an increase of staff time or impacts their job description then the Staff Parish Relations Committee; if is a mission project then the Missions Committee; if it involves worship then the Worship Committee - you get the idea! Go to the chair of that committee (you can find the chair of each committee and their contact information on our web site), or if your idea involves multiple committees then go to each of them, and ask to be put on the agenda, and ask when the next committee meeting takes place. Meet with the committee and ask for their support, endorsement, funding, etc. (If your idea requires funding, then the committee will need to endorse it and take it to the finance committee.) After all of that is accomplished, then the chair of the committee should report the idea and the outcome of the discussion at the Church Council meeting and you can get to work setting the great idea into motion! If the idea is something that involves the whole church, then it probably needs endorsement by the Church Council. You may be asked to present your great idea to the Council. PLEASE fill out a calendar request - or make sure the chair of the committee does so - and submit it to the church office. Nothing is on the calendar until the request is submitted and approved for day / date/ time/ space. Our administrative meetings are scheduled such that this whole process could actually take place in less than a month. All our administrative committees meet on Thursday’s - SPRC meets the 1st, Trustees the 2nd, Finance the 3rd, and Church Council the 4th. IF YOU WANT TO CANCEL your great idea, once it has been approved, then please go back to the body that gave the approval to move forward – there may be someone else who would love to take your great idea and make it happen!
